Why I built Corpus Files
A founder's letter on wonder, difficult questions, and a Catholic faith that welcomes deeper understanding.

I am a Catholic. That faith is the reason I built Corpus Files, and it is the foundation of this publication. I want it to be a place where an extraordinary story awakens wonder, a difficult question receives patient attention, and understanding has room to deepen.
I write for people wrestling with doubts, curious practicing and returning Catholics, and parents and educators helping someone else explore. You do not need to have every question settled before you begin. I hope confidence grows from what you discover here; I do not expect a short explanation to resolve everything a reader carries.
Miracles, relics, saints, and apparitions remain central to Corpus Files. Their stories lead into history, sacred places, beauty, belief, and pilgrimage. I want the publication to explain why these subjects matter to Catholic life, as well as what we can responsibly say about them.
That purpose asks for care. When an article explains Church teaching, it should identify the relevant authority. When it offers a theological interpretation or personal reflection, it should say so. When it examines historical or scientific evidence, the strength of the conclusion must follow the strength of the sources. Each of these belongs in a thoughtful Catholic publication, and each needs to be recognizable to the reader.
A reflection cannot fill a gap in a laboratory report or establish the age of an object. An unresolved case file answers a particular evidence question; it does not measure a person's faith. If a finding is uncomfortable, I still want it presented fairly. Readers deserve the strongest objections, clear sources, and corrections they can see.
I also want to give you a reason to keep exploring. One story can lead to another, a question can lead to a richer explanation, and a discovery can become a worthwhile conversation at home or in a learning group. Wonder is an invitation to pay closer attention.
For now I publish as Matthew Walton, a pen name. Corpus Files is an independent publication operated by W Consulting, LLC, not an official voice of the Church. Its Catholic purpose and its responsibility to readers belong together. Thank you for exploring with me.
